Faik Konica’s Legacy Revived in Bold New Play

“Zullulandia” is a production by the National Experimental Theatre. It will be performed on May 22, 23, 24, and 25 at ArTurbina.

The play is based on Faik Konica’s work. Endri Çela directed and adapted it. The cast includes Sokol Angjeli, Neritan Liçaj, Adriana Tolka, Brendi Bega, Katerina Fili, and Anxhelo Dauti.

“Zullulandia” is a big satirical celebration. It wakes us up to today’s reality. Though inspired by Konica’s writing, the play adds events from modern Albanian life.

Zullulandia is a fictional country in East Africa. Its backward and submissive people demand more rights from Europe. They send their ambassador, Denizullu-Serpen, to Paris and London. Arrogant and ignorant, he becomes a joke to foreign leaders. Still, when he returns home, the Zulus greet him with celebrations and honors for his “achievements.” Only Plugu sees the truth. Now, he must open the eyes of his people to Europe’s mockery.
