Faithful Honored Saint Cosmas’ Life and Miracles

Orthodox believers celebrated Saint Cosmas Day, honoring one of the saints with the most churches and monasteries in Albania.
A pilgrimage ceremony took place at the historic St. Spyridon Monastery in Vuno, Himara. His Eminence, Metropolitan Nikolla of Apollonia and Fier, led the festive Divine Liturgy. Local priests, including Father Evthim Bixhili, Father Joan Merkuri, and Father Harallamb Gjoka, assisted him.
Believers from Vuno and surrounding areas attended to honor the saint’s memory and teachings, which elders had passed to younger generations. Himara Mayor Vangjel Tavo also joined the event.
The Church said the ceremony highlighted Orthodox identity, centuries of history, and the community’s steadfast faith. Metropolitan Nikolla recalled Saint Cosmas’ life and lessons, linking them to local faith and education. He mentioned traditional miracles, including the timber that had washed ashore for the church roof and the cypress tree that grew over the stone bell tower.
The church, built in 1778, symbolized faith. Tradition said Saint Cosmas guided locals to build the church with stones at hand, assuring them God would provide the wood. Later, a sunken ship delivered the timber, allowing the project to succeed.
