Former Spaç Prison Transformed into Space for Reflection and Dialogue

Former Spaç Prison came alive this weekend. The cultural event “Beyond the Masks – Portraits and Memories” invited reflection, dialogue, and remembrance. Tek Bunkeri organized it as part of the “Shpirtërim” project.
Hundreds attended from across Albania. Art and real testimonies offered a fresh perspective on the country’s painful history.
The exhibition “Masks That Reveal” displayed portraits of former political prisoners and prison staff. Audio testimonies shared personal experiences. The stories went beyond usual narratives.
The book “Terrene – Eight Views on Spaç” was also presented. It offered deep insight into the past and encouraged ongoing dialogue.
The animated film “Antimuseum” explored freedom and forbidden dreams. It used symbolic and artistic language to engage viewers.
The Human Library created a unique space for intergenerational dialogue. Young people listened to live stories from those who lived through Spaç.
The Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sports organized the event. EU4Culture, funded by the European Union and implemented by UNOPS, supported it.
The event honored memory, encouraged reflection, and promoted a culture of dialogue about history and freedom.
