French Culture Week: National Library Inaugurates Pierre Cabanes Hall

As part of French Culture Week in Albania, the National Library of Albania inaugurated the “Pierre Cabanes Hall.” In collaboration with the Embassy of France in Albania and the French Ministry of Culture, this hall contains all the collections of the renowned historian of Antiquity and epigraphist Pierre Cabanes (1930-2023).

The ceremony was greeted with appreciation by the Director of the National Library, Piro Misha, the French Ambassador to Albania, Catherine Suard, as well as historians and archaeologists Neritan Ceka, Belisa Muka, and Saimir Shpuza from the Institute of Archaeology, who personally knew and collaborated with the late Albanologist.

Pierre Raynaud, cultural advisor at the French Embassy in Tirana, conveyed special thanks from the family of the late Pierre Cabanes, who were unable to attend the inauguration. Additionally, the ceremony was honored by the presence of René Troccaz, the special envoy of the French President for the Balkans, as well as numerous Albanian figures and personalities from the fields of culture, history, and archaeology.

This library, now part of the collections of the National Library, was left by Cabanes as a legacy to be donated to the Albanian people, to be available to students and researchers interested in the history and archaeology of Antiquity, thus continuing the tradition of cultural cooperation between Albania and France.
