Fuel tax cut to apply when diesel price exceeds 220 Albanian Lek per litre

TIRANA, March 30 – Finance Minister Petrit Malaj said authorities will reduce excise tax by 8 Lek when fuel prices exceed 220 lek per litre. The Transparency Board will calculate and apply the reduction automatically. Businesses will then receive a reduced retail price of 213 lek per litre.
Malaj explained that the mechanism will apply on a daily basis. When the board sets a retail price above 220 Lek, it will deduct 20 percent of the excise, equal to 8 Lek. For example, a price of 221 Lek will drop to 213 lek after the reduction. When prices remain below 220 Lek, the board’s set price will apply without changes.
The minister also outlined measures to strengthen fuel tracking and control. Authorities will continue marking fuel through a state-managed system. He said the marking process will meet high standards and align with European requirements.
In parallel, fuel transported in transit will carry digital seals for real-time monitoring. Authorities will track tanker trucks from entry into Albania until exit. Once the shipment leaves the country, officials will remove the security elements and allow it to continue to its final destination.
