Gonxhja: Archaeological Excavations in Apollonia Reveal New Insights into the Ancient City

Archaeologists are uncovering new evidence about one of the most important public monuments in the ancient city of Apollonia.
The archaeological research is taking place in Apollonia Archaeological Park as part of an Albanian-French mission. The work is helping researchers better understand the city’s history and urban development.
Each newly uncovered layer provides valuable evidence about Apollonia’s history. It also sheds light on urban development and public life in the ancient city.
Moreover, archaeologists are reassessing the city’s urban organization and the function of its public monuments through scientific research and archaeological documentation. These findings are offering a broader view of Apollonia’s development and its role in the ancient world.
Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports Blendi Gonxhja stressed the importance of continuing archaeological research. He said further excavations will expand knowledge of Albania’s cultural and historical heritage.
