Gonxhja: Public beaches increased by over 17.4% last summer

Public spaces along the coastline grew significantly in 2025.
Tourism, Culture, and Sports Minister Blendi Gonxhja said that public beaches increased by 17.4 percent compared with 2024. The change added more than 1.1 million square meters of accessible space for citizens.
“The number of public parcels rose from 523 to 1,014. That is a 94 percent increase in the 2025 tourist season. It clearly shows our focus on more inclusive and balanced tourism,” Gonxhja said.
The government reorganized beach areas under the new beach management regulation last year. The reform gave priority to public beaches.
The regulation is based on a key principle. Sunbeds cannot be the main business model. Operators must treat them only as an additional service to accommodation facilities. In 2025, every kilometer of beach included 300 meters of public beach.
The regulation also clearly defined operational zones. It set areas for licensed beach operators, public beaches, swimming zones, mooring spots for boats, and navigation corridors.
