Hafize and Selim Leskoviku on the first gramophone record in 1900

Leskovik has conveyed a wealth of historical events over the centuries, great historical figures, great folkloric wealth from lyrical to epic songs, from fairy tales and legends to his ethnographic wonders.

Major historical figures were Hafize and Selim Leskoviku, who were born and raised in Leskovik. They formed one of the first groups of sazs, at the same time and the most heard in the whole south-eastern region of Tuscany; but also as outstanding singers of Leskovik.

The brothers Asllani and Selimi played the clarinet, while Hafizeja, apart from being a singer, also performed on the violin. They were the most prominent composers of folk music with saze in South Albania of the first half of the century. XX.

An important influence on their music was the polyphonic musical folklore of the area of Shqeria, from which they borrowed most of the vocal repertoire. Selimi on the harp and Hafizeja on singing while playing the violin, still remain among the highest peaks of the interpretation and creation of folk folk music.

Although many years have passed, Hafizeja and her interpretations are still the standard of interpretation for any singer in southern civic music. In those years, Selim was considered the most outstanding clarinetist. He is known for the formation of virtuoso music in gerneta, which also appears in the accompaniments of songs, but rather in the instrumental parts of sazs, whether these are “crying”, “dance” or “kaba”. The classical formation formed by them consisted of 1 harp, 1 violin and 1 lute.

With their many years of experience and their tours not only in Albania but also abroad (in Turkey, Romania, Italy, Greece, the former Yugoslavia, Austria, America and Australia) they set the tone for Albanian music with historical traditional national bases and makes known Albanian music in all other countries of the world. But not only in Albania but also in Greece, especially in Turkey, they raised the cultured Turkish popular music where their music was and is an encyclopedia in the field of popular music. Selim Aslan Leskovik’s golden clarinet is located in the Turkish Folklore Museum in Turkey.

The fact is that with their records they have left a great musical fund, especially in Turkey and America. These documents are located in Turkey (in the court of the Sultan) and in America, while in Albania their songs have remained very popular and are sung by the Albanian people to this day and their history has remained a legend.

Hafize Leskoviku has recorded gramophone records in the societies “Victoria”, “Kolumbia” and “Odeon”.
