Historian Maria Todorova official visit to the Academy of Sciences of Albania

The president of the Academy of Sciences, academician Skënder Gjinushi, received today in an official visit Maria Todorova, professor of sociolinguistics, language of communication at the University of Illinois in the USA, also an external collaborator of the Academy of Sciences of Albania.
Skënder Gjinushi, appreciated Todorova’s work and appreciated her benevolent scientific attention to Albanians in the context of Balkan developments in history and thought, to their identity, to relations and the role they play in the region.
Todorova is the daughter of Nikolaj Todorov, who in the 1980s headed the Academy of Sciences of Bulgaria, and then was the speaker of the country’s parliament and president of Bulgaria.
Gjinushi pointed out the fact that precisely in the 80s, when Albania was still isolated, the historical founding president of our Academy Alex Buda was awarded the title of honorary member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
Further, prof. dr. Todorova expressed her pleasure of her first visit to Albania, and said there is much to learn about the country and its history.
Todorova, accompanied by the Presidency of the Academy of Sciences, then went to the “Aleks Buda” hall of the Academy of Sciences of Albania to hold her two lectures on studies on the Balkans: history, debates and the country of Albania and imaginary Balkans – 25 years later.
Gjinushi appreciated it as an excellent opportunity that researchers and academics will attend a lecture dedicated to our country in Balkan studies.
