Interior Minister Demo calls for new standards at Security Academy

Interior Minister Ervin Demo called for higher professional standards at Albania’s Security Academy. He made the remarks while addressing new students at the institution.

Demo said the academy must prepare a new generation of police officers for increasingly complex security challenges. He stressed the importance of knowledge, technology, professional training and prevention. He also called for integrity and zero tolerance of corruption.

Meanwhile, Demo said the State Police needs stronger links between experience and new professional skills. He described the police uniform as a responsibility rather than a privilege. He also said citizens must remain at the centre of police work.

Demo announced that the government is moving ahead with a significant pay rise for all State Police personnel. He said new officers would receive better treatment than their predecessors. The minister linked the reform to Albania’s goal of completing all European Union negotiation chapters by 2027.

Demo also called for a major improvement in the academy’s quality. He said the institution should move beyond infrastructure improvements and adapt its training to the needs of modern policing.
