Jean Pierre Martinez’s Satirical Play Debuts at Durrës Amphitheatre

The “Aleksandër Moisiu” Theater Company of Durrës is entering its final stage of rehearsals. The premiere of The Most Forgotten Place in Albania is set for July 15.
French-Spanish playwright Jean Pierre Martinez wrote the play. Anxhela Çikopano translated it into Albanian. The plot takes place in a remote village, nearly erased from the map. The locals fight to protect their home. But when a famous journalist arrives, their struggle takes an absurd turn. What follows is both humorous and thought-provoking.
Director Andia Xhunga leads the production. Known for several acclaimed works, she brings a sharp eye to this satirical piece. The play will run on six dates throughout July. The ancient amphitheatre of Durrës will host the performances.
The cast features a strong ensemble: Gentian Zenelaj, Romir Zalla, Mimoza Marjanaku, Aleksandër Seitaj, Ervin Doko, Alesia Xhemalaj, Adelina Muça, Amos Zaharia, Xheini Fama, and Jaho Guma.
Alketa Tragajt Myshketa handles the set and costume design. Composer Endri Sina contributes original music.
This project marks a first for the “Moisiu” Theater—a direct collaboration with Jean Pierre Martinez. The playwright’s academic credentials are extensive. He holds degrees in economics, marketing, Spanish and English literature, linguistics, and semiotics. His career spans multiple disciplines. He played drums in rock bands, worked in advertising, wrote TV scripts, and taught French in Texas. Today, he is a prolific playwright with global reach.
So far, Martinez has authored 114 theatrical works. Many are performed internationally.
