Jutta Benzenberg’s Exhibition: Memory, Loss, and Artistic Rebirth

Jutta Benzenberg presents her photography exhibition, “Don’t Look Back at the Burning House,” at a temporary pavilion in Skanderbeg Square.

The exhibition shows memory, loss, and artistic rebirth. It features 1990s Albania in three parts: portraits and daily life during the transition, collages from her archive, and burned negatives from a 2006 fire. The fire destroyed about 90% of her work.

Benzenberg and curator Olsi Hoxha restored the burned negatives. The images mix documentary photography and art. They also appear in her book, Don’t Look Back at the Burning House.

Blendi Gonxhja, Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Sports, praised the exhibition. He said it reflects the country’s shared stories.

The exhibition is free. Visitors can come daily from 10:00 to 20:30 at the HBS Gallery, Temporary Pavilion, Skanderbeg Square.
