“Koncerti” Premieres at ArTurbina on May 16–18

A production by the National Experimental Theatre “Kujtim Spahivogli” and the Italian Institute of Culture will be staged on May 16, 17, and 18. The play is titled The Concert. It is a dramatization of Stefan Çapaliku’s novel An Angel Dressed in a Tailcoat. The show will take place at ArTurbina.

The story unfolds in 1950s Shkodra. Europe is divided into two ideological blocks. In communist Albania under Enver Hoxha, a man falls from a balcony and dies. Accident? Suicide? In a dictatorship, “suicide” does not exist. Who was this man, Pol Gjakova? He was a composer. But what does it mean to be a composer in a dictatorship? What do you compose, and for whom, in 1950s Albania—or even in modern Europe?

The play, directed and adapted by Giacomo Pedini, raises these questions. Renowned actors Helidon Fino, Laert Vasili, Ilirda Bejleri, Matia Llupa, and Ismail Shino perform in The Concert.
