“La Vanguardia”: Albanian Riviera emerges as a Mediterranean paradise compared with the Caribbean

TIRANA, July 16 – Spain’s prestigious newspaper La Vanguardia has published a feature by journalist Carmen Giró on the Albanian Riviera, describing it as a Mediterranean destination where natural beauty meets rapid tourism growth.

The article highlights Albania’s more than 400 kilometres of coastline, with sandy beaches along the Adriatic Sea and pebble beaches along the Ionian coast. It describes crystal-clear waters, hidden bays and scenic landscapes that attract a growing number of international visitors.

According to La Vanguardia, the Riviera combines stunning nature with a lively tourism scene. The report also points to challenges linked to development, including coastal construction, crowded beaches and the need for stronger environmental protection.

The feature takes readers through key destinations such as Vlora, the Narta Lagoon, Karaburun Peninsula, Sazan Island, Dhërmi, Himara, Porto Palermo, Saranda and Ksamil. It highlights historic sites, protected areas and some of the country’s most photographed coastal locations.

Meanwhile, the newspaper describes Ksamil’s white beaches and turquoise waters as creating a “Caribbean effect”. It also notes the area’s proximity to Corfu and the archaeological site of Butrint.

The article also explores local cuisine, highlighting seafood, traditional dishes and regional products.

La Vanguardia concludes that Albania’s coastline continues to gain international attention, while the country faces the challenge of balancing tourism development with environmental sustainability.
