Lezhë and San Demetrio Corone Finalize Institutional Partnership

The twinning agreement between the Municipality of Lezhë and San Demetrio Corone will be officially concluded today. This institutional step aims to strengthen cooperation in the fields of culture, education, and the economy.
The recent visit of President Bajram Begaj to Cosenza, Calabria, played a key role in reinforcing Albanian–Arbëresh historical ties. During his visit, the new municipal building of San Demetrio Corone was inaugurated. President Begaj’s presence highlighted Albania’s continued support for the Arbëresh language, culture, and traditions.
San Demetrio Corone, led by Mayor Ernesto Madeo, will formally partner with Lezhë. This connection marks a cultural and institutional bridge rooted in shared heritage and common history, with a forward-looking perspective.
“This is not merely a pact between two institutions, but an embrace between two communities that share a language, historical memory, and a deep sense of belonging,” stated Mayor Madeo. “It is our duty to nurture and strengthen this connection for future generations.”
The partnership will support joint projects, cultural exchanges between schools, and initiatives focused on preserving the Arbëresh language and traditions.
