«Man of the House» – World Premiere in Sarajevo

The National Theatre of Sarajevo hosted the world premiere of «Man of the House». Critics, filmmakers, and an enthusiastic audience filled the hall. They greeted the film with long applause.

The film, written and directed by Andamion Murataj, was part of the Competition Programme – Feature Film Out of Competition at the 31st Sarajevo Film Festival. This edition also featured three films from Kosovo, highlighting the region’s growing cinematic presence.

Fran, the film’s central character, chooses to live as a “man of the house.” She defies traditional Albanian masculine roles. She does not live in the mountains, wear a qeleshe, or stay in men’s rooms. Instead, she drives a local bus to support her father and care for her niece. Yet, at a pivotal moment, Fran must confront maternal feelings she has long suppressed.

The main cast includes: Drita Kaba Karaga, Alesia Ruçi, Bislim Muçaj, Astrit Alihajdaraj, Adem Karaga, Klodian Hoxha, Basri Llushtaku, Armond Morina, and Valina Muçolli. In addition, Albanian actors from Greece, Italy, and Austria appear in supporting roles.

Moreover, women led key creative roles, including cinematography, costume design, and makeup, making the production a true European collaboration. The film is officially certified as a “green production” by a leading European agency.

The co-production spans Albania, Italy, Austria, Croatia, Kosovo, and North Macedonia. It received support from national and European film institutions, including Eurimages.

After the world premiere, «Man of the House» will screen in Tirana, Prishtina, and at international festivals in Germany, Italy, France, and India. The premiere and the positive reception underline the growing influence of Albanian cinema in the region and beyond.
