“Marubi” Museum, activities for the European Heritage Days

European Heritage Days are being celebrated in various countries, with dates and activities varying from state to state. This week, activities are taking place not only in France, Poland, and Lithuania but also in our own country.
The “Marubi” Museum has actively participated in European Heritage Days. The theme for 2023, “Living Heritage,” emphasizes practices, knowledge, and skills that have been transmitted across generations nowadays and continue to foster cultural diversity and creativity.
This year, the “Marubi” Museum has curated a program dedicated to the temporary exhibition of the brothers Janaki and Milton Manaki. They were prominent photographers and filmmakers, among the most important in the early 20th century Balkans. The program includes workshops and contributions from researchers across various fields, shedding light on the history and creativity of the Manaki brothers, as well as delving into the rituals depicted in their images.
The heritage days commence with workshops, forming a part of the educational program for the exhibition. The events then continue with discussions featuring Igor Stardelov, a researcher and director of the film archive at the Cinematheque of North Macedonia, and Mikaela Minga, a musicologist who will present her research on Arumuno-Vllehe music. These heritage days will culminate on Saturday evening with a dinner and the screening of a documentary directed by Eliza Zdru. The documentary begins with a photograph found in a family album, inspiring her to embark on a journey through the Balkans in search of traces left by Janaki and Milton Manaki.
The “Marubi” Museum’s activities dedicated to European Heritage Days will run until September 16.
