Metropol Theatre represented Albania at the Skupi International Theatre Festival 2025 in North Macedonia with the play “The Half-Life of Marie Curie.”

This touching production sheds light on a difficult period in the life of the remarkable scientist Marie Curie, following her discoveries of radium and polonium and the tragic death of her husband, Pierre Curie.

The evening dedicated to Metropol Theatre drew a large and enthusiastic audience, full of energy and interaction. Metropol stood out among many talented participants, winning the prestigious “Luran Ahmeti” Award.

The drama portrays Curie’s confrontation with professional and personal challenges in a world that often minimized and judged women’s achievements. It also explores the public scandal she faced, highlighting her determination to preserve her integrity and dignity, both as a scientist and as a woman.

“The Half-Life of Marie Curie,” written by Lauren Gunderson and directed by Armela Demaj, premiered at Metropol Theatre in Tirana in March 2024, starring Yllka Mujo and Armela Demaj.
