Micallef Visits Two Key Cultural Heritage Sites Supported by EU4Culture

During his first official visit to Albania, Glenn Micallef, European Commissioner for Intergenerational Justice, Youth, Culture, and Sport, visited two important cultural heritage sites supported by the EU4Culture program. First, he saw the restored façade of the former Kinostudio building. Then, he toured the Central State Film Archive, which now features advanced digitization technology.

His visit underscored the European Union’s strong and ongoing commitment to preserving Albania’s cultural heritage through EU4Culture. This program runs through UNOPS, working closely with the Ministry of Economy, Culture, and Innovation.

The former Kinostudio building, a key monument of Albanian cinematic history, underwent important conservation work. This included restoring the façade and making structural improvements. These efforts protect both its cultural and architectural significance.

At the same time, the Central State Film Archive received modern digitization and preservation equipment. This upgrade boosts Albania’s ability to safeguard its audiovisual heritage. It also makes this heritage more accessible to the public.
