The National Book and Reading Center has signed an agreement with the Italian Cultural Institute, officially launching the “Pashko Gjeçi” Prize for translations from Italian literature into Albanian.

The award honors the vital yet often quiet work of translators who give Italian literature a new voice in Albanian.

“To translate is to rewrite, recreate, and reinvent. And now, to reward,” wrote the Italian Cultural Institute on its official page.

The prize is open to all adult translators from Albania and Kosovo.

Two winners will receive full funding for translation and guaranteed publication of the selected work.

Applications are open until September 21, 2025.
