National Historical Museum, the restoration of the 3 icons is nearing completion

The Laboratory of Restoration of Works of Art at IKTK has announced that the restoration of three icons—’Saint Athanasius’ from 1855, ‘Saint Harallambi’ from 1855, and ‘Saint Kolli’ from 1859—is nearing completion.

These three icons are part of the collection at the National Historical Museum by Diço Zografi. Specialists from the Works of Art Sector at the National Institute of Cultural Heritage are diligently continuing their work to finalize the interventions on these icons.

Currently, the majority of conservation-restoration processes have been completed, encompassing disinfection, consolidation, and cleaning. The ongoing processes include filling gaps and pictorial integration.

The pavilion of post-Byzantine icons, erected in 1999 in collaboration with the Institute of Cultural Monuments, exhibits approximately 70 post-Byzantine icons, a proskinitare, beautiful doors, and an iconostasis. The objects on display span a period from the 16th century to the early 19th century, known as the post-Byzantine art era. Iconographers featured in the pavilion include Onufri, Onufër Cyprioti, David Selenica, Kostandin Shpataraku, Kostandin Jeromonak, Joan Athanasi, the Zografi brothers, the Çetiri brothers, anonymous artists, and Mihal Anagnosti.
