Opposition protest in Tirana ends after clashes

TIRANA, January 24 – The Democratic Party and its allies held a national protest today in front of the Prime Minister’s Office on “Dëshmorët e Kombit” Boulevard.
Party leader Sali Berisha addressed the crowd, focusing on the government and Parliament. He said the opposition has reached the final phase of its confrontation with the authorities. He described the years in opposition as a “marathon of challenges,” marked by pressure and isolation. Berisha added that the opposition has grown stronger and now approaches “triumph.” He also called the government a “narco-state” and said people cannot remove it through elections alone, claiming that only popular revolt can bring change.
After his speech, protesters threw a large number of Molotov cocktails at the Prime Minister’s Office. Later, part of the crowd moved to the Parliament (Assembly of Albania) plenary hall, where they used Molotov cocktails, pyrotechnic devices, and other projectiles.
Police responded immediately with tear gas and water to disperse the crowd. They also brought reinforcements to the Parliament, including extra personnel and water cannon units.
Some police officers received medical assistance, while some protesters needed treatment for exposure to tear gas.
Following the dispersal, authorities confirmed that the protest has ended. They said the situation is under control, public safety is maintained, and traffic has returned to normal.
