President Bajram Begaj is consulting parliamentary parties and groups on the date of the 2027 local elections. The vote is expected to take place between April 15 and May 15.

Begaj is expected to announce the official date by November 9. The consultations form part of the procedure for setting the election date.

The Socialist Party has confirmed its participation. Its parliamentary group leader, Taulant Balla, said successive presidents had followed the same consultation procedure. He also criticised the Democratic Party’s decision to stay away.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party has rejected Begaj’s invitation. Its parliamentary group leader, Gazment Bardhi, called the process a “political theatre.” He claimed Prime Minister Edi Rama had already decided the election date. Bardhi also argued that the consultations lacked political value and accused the president of failing to fulfil his constitutional role.
