Petrela was the residence of Mamica Kastrioti. This historical fact is brought to attention by the General Directorate of Archives, which also published a photo of the time.

Mamica Kastrioti was George Kastioti  Skanderbeg’s younger sister, who after the murder of her husband, Gjergj Topia at the battle of Berat in 1455, took over and managed the catle and the properties. Mamica Kastrioti and her family stayed in that castle for years.

In the hilly-mountainous country approximately 15 kilometers from Tirana, the name of Mamica Kastrioti is imprinted in the central square of Petrela.

Petrela Castle, which has stood the test of time, has now become a tourist destination where many visitors enjoy the wonderful nature of the area.
