PM Rama: Albanian Archive, the Only One in Europe Offering Every Document Online and Free of Charge

The “Online Study Room” platform of the General Directorate of Archives (DPA) enables researchers to access archival documents for free from home at any time, both in Albania and abroad, using the same procedures as if they were in the DPA’s study room.
This innovation positions the Albanian archive as the only one in Europe that offers every document online and at no cost.
Today, Prime Minister Edi Rama shared an informative video on social media about the DPA’s platform, which effectively brings the “Study Room” into users’ homes.
He highlighted that the “Online Study Room” allows users to explore archival documents for free, following the same procedures and format as being physically present in the Study Room in Tirana.
As part of its successful digitization efforts, the DPA is committed to making archival materials easily accessible to researchers.
For two consecutive months, users will be able to consult ordered document files for free through this online study platform.
This initiative particularly targets students, who benefit from favorable fees for accessing bibliographic resources while completing their academic work. They are further encouraged to explore the nation’s history and documentary heritage.
With approximately 19 million digitized documents from 2019 to 2024, the DPA represents the most digitized central archive in Europe.
The DPA’s collection is accessible anytime and anywhere, thanks to the establishment of archival corners in dozens of cities, both within and outside Albania, where users can access materials just like in the study room in Tirana.
