PM Rama: “Smart City” also to support honest police officers

TIRANA, December 19 – Prime Minister Edi Rama on Thursday highlighted the role of the “Smart City Albania” project in supporting honest police officers and tightening control over criminal activity.

Rama said the system enables police officers to track known street criminals in real time. As a result, offenders cannot move freely or operate unnoticed.

At the same time, he described the project as a management challenge. He said resistance inside the State Police should be expected.

“It is normal that some within the State Police do not want this project,” Rama said. He explained that Smart City eliminates many practices that concern police leadership, institutions, and citizens.

Rama added that the system will stop the personal use of police vehicles. Patrol cars, he said, will no longer park at private homes or restaurants while officers remain on duty.

He noted that those who tried to delay or block the project clearly understand its impact. According to Rama, the system removes space for abuse and misconduct that harm the credibility of the State Police.

Rama stressed that Smart City supports honest police leaders and officers. It removes gray areas and limits temptation. Anyone seeking to evade police oversight to commit wrongdoing, he added, will find it increasingly impossible.
