The Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Hoshteva, Zagori (Gjirokastër) stands as one of Albania’s most remarkable monuments. Today, it draws visitors eager to witness its vivid mural paintings and the ruins steeped in history.

President Bajram Begaj posted images of the Church of the Holy Apostles on social media, describing it as “a beautiful surprise beyond Mount Dhëmbel, entirely adorned with mural paintings”.

He emphasized that “it has withstood invasions and the former regime thanks to the care and love of the local residents, regardless of their religious beliefs”.

Dating back to around 1843, the Church of the Apostles in Hoshteva is a rare example of Byzantine Orthodox religious and artistic heritage, featuring strikingly vibrant frescoes.
