Rama Responds to “Safe Journalists”: A Deeply Distorted Misreading of My Position on RTSH

Prime Minister Edi Rama responded today to a statement by the “Safe Journalists” network. He said it reflects a deeply distorted misunderstanding of his position on the Albanian public broadcaster, RTSH.

“Safe Journalists” raised concerns over Rama’s public remarks on RTSH. The network said linking the broadcaster’s funding or existence to political approval undermines its independence and threatens media freedom.

In a post on X, Rama said such reactions show “a regrettable pattern of this new era of extreme laziness in listening to what others actually say.” He argued that the criticism fails to reflect the substance of his remarks.

Rama said the statement shows a deeply distorted reading of his views on RTSH. He rejected claims that he supports tying RTSH’s funding or existence to political approval.

The prime minister invited the authors of the statement to read or listen carefully to his speech. He urged them to make an honest effort to understand his real message.

“My remarks have absolutely nothing to do with linking RTSH’s funding or existence to political approval,” Rama wrote. “Any such interpretation is inaccurate and misleading. Protecting information begins with not spreading disinformation.”
