Reç Commemoration: Tribute, Remembrance, and Folk Celebration in Malësia e Madhe

At the historical Reç memorial, a ceremony reportedly commemorated the Reç Battle during WWII. This battle of 1943 was described as one of the most important fights against occupying forces.
Representatives of institutions, local citizens, and families of fallen heroes placed wreaths to honor them.
During his speech, the Mayor of Malësia e Madhe, Tonin Marinaj, reportedly called the resistance an eternal example of patriotism. He highlighted that the struggle against fascism in the region ranked among the most important battles. Furthermore, he noted that the event recalled the unity of locals from Reç, Shkodër, Dukagjin, and surrounding areas. The mayor reportedly added that children respected Reç and remembered the battle with admiration. He expressed hope that future generations would continue to honor it.
The elected deputy, Bujar Rexha, reportedly stressed that remembering the sacrifice of the fallen must serve as a guide for young people. He explained that the Reç Battle held great significance in the history of Albania’s national Anti-fascist Liberation War. According to him, it marked the first battle in northern Albania where the people of Reç joined forces with the National Liberation Army. This alliance, he reportedly said, made it possible to repel a far larger fascist occupier. He also remarked that such continuous battles across Albania enabled the country to achieve freedom and independence through its own forces.
After the tributes, the atmosphere reportedly transformed into a folk festival. Local residents and invited guests enjoyed traditional songs and dances. They celebrated the cultural heritage of Malësia e Madhe, linking historical remembrance with living traditions.
