Recent excavations uncover a New Monument at Bylis Archaeological Park

Ongoing archaeological excavations within the Bylis Archaeological Park, under the jurisdiction of the Vlora Regional Heritage Directorate, have unveiled additional ancient monuments, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of the historical urban development within the public area.
In addition to the ongoing excavation of the public cistern, geophysical surveys have unveiled the presence of a temple dedicated to Emperor Octavian Augustus.
The monument was situated at the entrance of the agora, facing the Pytaneon, a significant public cistern, and the thermae from the Late Antiquity period. According to the team of archaeologists, it is believed to be a temple dedicated to Augustus.
In this archaeological project, under the direction of Dr. Olgita Ceka, Prof. Neritan Ceka, and Prof. Skender Muçaj, collaboration has already been established with Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage Vlorë. This cooperation involves the participation of specialists who are contributing to the advancement of the archaeological excavation, as well as preliminary conservation and restoration efforts.
This research campaign has focused on the monumental center and public monuments of the agora in the ancient city of Bylis.
