One of the most important monuments of our cultural heritage is entering a new phase of development. The project “Revitalization of Shkodra Castle” will lead it. The EBRD and the European Union fund the investment. The Albanian Development Fund implements it.

Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports Blendi Gonxhja and Shkodra Mayor Benet Beci visited the castle today.

“This project aims to transform the castle into a vibrant cultural, tourist, and educational space,” said Gonxhja. “It improves infrastructure, access, and the visitor experience. At the same time, it strictly preserves its historical and architectural values.”

Gonxhja said the partners signed a cooperation agreement. The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports, the Municipality of Shkodra, and the Albanian Development Fund signed it. The agreement supports the implementation of this strategic sub-project.

The project includes parking improvements and new directional signage. It also restores the castle museum. These measures raise the quality of visitor services.

About 178,000 visitors toured Shkodra Castle in 2025. The new lighting gives the castle a completely new look. It highlights the grandeur and values of this archaeological site. The castle remains one of Shkodra’s most important symbols.
