Saint Michael’s Church, an excellent example of basilica architecture

Saint Michael’s Church, a treasure of Albanian cultural heritage, located in the Grekas neighborhood of Vithkuq, is an excellent example of basilica architecture. Built in 1682 and painted around 1728, this church stands out for its impressive size and detail.

The church consists of the three-nave basilica type nave, narthex and porch. Columns in two rows separate the naves and are connected by a system of arches. The longitudinal naves are interrupted by a transversal nave, creating in the central part a core covered with a dome. The narthex is covered by a wooden roof.

On the east side of the church is the apse, which ends with a carved stone frame. The porch, covered with a wooden roof, adds beauty to the structure of the church.
