Scientific conference on the 200th anniversary of Byron’s death

The Academy of Sciences announced that soon it will organize a scientific conference dedicated to “Byronism in the Albanian world,” as one of the earliest phenomena of the tradition myth, evoking the “Great Epoch,” linguistic romanticism, ideological and literary romanticism, the myth of origin, and the deification of ethnicity.
The conference will address issues of the earliest period of romanticism (pre-Albanian renaissance); the beginnings of the Albanian idea (Albanianism); the “national utopia” of the Renaissance; the connections of Albanian romantic poets with the most prominent figures of the time in Europe (De Rada and Lamartine, Hugo, Mistral); projects for a “Lady Albania” (Naimi, Samiu, Çajupi, Pashko Vasa); the European romantic approach to literature and knowledge (V. Hugo, Alexander Dumas); works created in the atmosphere of “Child Harold” (“Alipashaida”).

Albanian scholars from all historical areas (Kosovo, North Macedonia, Arbëreshë and Arvanites, from Montenegro) will be invited to propose issues to be presented at the conference from various fields of Albanology: literary studies, historiography, anthropology.
Academy of Sciences announces that the conference will be held in the coming months and the schedule will be made known soon.
The place of Albanians in Byron’s famous poem is clearly highlighted even in the BBC’s artistic film “Byron,” in which Albanian is spoken, sung, and even the costumes of the revolutionary insurgents are traditional Albanian. The film is based on the early period of the poet’s life.
