Shkodër Gains New Archaeological Site in Bushat

Shkodër county has added a new archaeological site in Bushat, where Albanian-Polish excavations uncovered traces of an Illyrian city from the 4th century BC.
Prime Minister Edi Rama shared the news and images from the excavation site today. He noted that inter-institutional collaboration is helping draft an Archaeological Zoning Plan to manage this valuable cultural heritage.
Excavations began in 2018 under the Albanian-Polish research mission led by Piotr Dyczek and Saimir Shpuza. The work has revealed city traces, two entrance gates, and the overall extent of the settlement.
Recent digs focus on the upper city to uncover its internal organization and urban layout. Early dating indicates that this upper part was heavily built in the mid-4th century BC.
Collaboration with the Institute of Cultural Monuments, the Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage in Shkodra, and the archaeological mission has enabled detailed mapping and zoning to ensure proper protection and administration of this high-potential archaeological area, in line with legal frameworks.
