“Sounds of memory”, commemorative concert on the 50th anniversary of the Spaç Revolt

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Spachi Revolt, the “Remember” Foundation with the support of the Embassy of Switzerland and the Konrad Adenauer-Stiftung organized a commemorative concert at the Cultural Center of the Orthodox Cathedral in Tirana.
The “Sounds of Memory” concert brought together well-known names of Albanian art such as Ema Andrea, Vikena Kamenica, Ylber Gjini, Kristina Petrollari, Fatos Bardulla, Dorina Laro, etc., but it is worth highlighting the singer Tomi Kondakçi, former convict in Spaç. The artistic director of the concert was the composer Endri Sina.
The program included poems by Havzi Nela, Visar Zhiti, Sadri Ahmeti and Maks Velo, accompanied by the music of Tchaikovsky, Cesk Zade, etc.
The premiere of the documentary film “White Sheets” was also shown to the attendees. Selected in 14 international festivals and awarded in 3 of them, directed by Pandeli Çeço and Luljeta Progni, as well as with the support of the “Kujto” Foundation, founded by Agron Shehaj as the scion of a politically persecuted family.
The protest of political prisoners started with the flag without a star, painted by Mersim Vlashi 32 years in prison (who is no longer alive today), then the slogans “Here is death, here is freedom!”, “Long live free Albania!”, “The people are with us!”, “Long live free Europe!”, which continued for over 3 days on the prison terrace by 100 prisoners, who were quickly surrounded by over 4500 military troops from Shkodra and Tirana, who opened fire from all sides.
