Speaker of Parliament Niko Peleshi said today that a free Kosovo stands as proof of international solidarity and the resilience of a people who never surrendered.

On the 27th anniversary of NATO intervention in Kosovo, he stressed that March 24, 1999 remains one of the most important dates for Kosovo and for regional peace.

He said that the NATO intervention stopped violence and ethnic cleansing by Serbian forces against the Albanian population. As a result, it opened the path toward freedom and Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic future. He added that today we remember the Alliance’s historic decision and the sacrifice of the people of Kosovo.

Moreover, Peleshi honored all those who suffered and fought for freedom.

Today marks 27 years since NATO began airstrikes against key military and police targets of Serbia and Montenegro in Kosovo.

Subsequently, the intervention led to the establishment of an international administration and the deployment of peacekeeping forces. As a result, it marked a major turning point in the region’s political and security developments.
