Speaker Peleshi: Albania advancing at record pace in EU talks, aims to close by 2027

TIRANA, January 16 – Assembly Speaker Niko Peleshi highlighted Albania’s rapid progress in European Union accession talks, saying the country aims to conclude negotiations by 2027.
He made the remarks during a meeting of the SP Parliamentary Group, where he outlined parliamentary challenges linked to Albania’s 2030 agenda.
Peleshi focused in particular on EU integration, describing the past year as a period of record momentum.
He said Albania has moved quickly both in opening negotiation chapters and in meeting technical and institutional criteria.
“The process of opening negotiations concluded on November 17. Our objective now is to close them by 2027,” Peleshi said, calling the target ambitious but achievable.
The Assembly Speaker expressed confidence in meeting the deadline.
Peleshi stressed that 2027 is not a unilateral target or an electoral promise, but a timeline agreed with European Union institutions.
