“Syri i Kaltër” Natural Park Reopens to Visitors

The National Agency for Protected Areas (AKZM) announced today that “Syri i Kaltër” Natural Park in Sarandë is now open. Authorities confirm the park is safe for visitors.

AKZM urges visitors to remain cautious. They also advise reporting any incidents to state authorities immediately.

Yesterday, AKZM staff conducted an on-site inspection. Preliminary results show that fire affected 30.66 hectares of the park.

Meanwhile, AKZM, together with the Regional Directorate for Protected Areas in Vlorë and other state structures, has actively restored safety. They focused on protecting the local community, businesses, and the many visitors to the park.

According to AKZM, analyzing fire damage in forests and pastures is essential for recovery. Solidarity, coordinated efforts, and psychological and emotional support guide this phase.

The fire started in Krane, in the Mesopotam administrative unit, and spread to Pecë, near “Syri i Kaltër.” However, state authorities acted quickly. They controlled the flames and prevented the fire from reaching the protected natural monument.

Additionally, the Ministry of Defence reported that firefighting continued yesterday in the heights of Mount Sopot. Teams deployed 67 firefighters with 11 vehicles, 30 municipal units, 80 Armed Forces personnel with 10 vehicles, six ambulances, and 30 support units. Moreover, an Italian Canadair aircraft joined the operations to help extinguish the flames.
