Teacher’s Day in Albania honours educators; PM Rama highlights the power of language

TIRANA, March 7 – Albania marks Teacher’s Day on March 7, a national day that honours teachers and their role in educating younger generations.

The date recalls a key moment in Albanian education. The first secular school in the Albanian language opened in Korça on March 7, 1887. Educator Pandeli Sotiri led the school. Albanian patriots supported the effort to promote national education and the Albanian language.

Schools across the country mark the day with activities, cultural programs, and artistic events. Students often express gratitude to their teachers with flowers, small gifts, and messages of appreciation.

Prime Minister Edi Rama also marked the occasion. He shared a photo album with children and teachers on social media.

Rama stressed the importance of the Albanian language and the connection it creates among Albanians.

“With the energy of children from Monastir, who remind us how strong the bond through language is. I wish you a happy March 7 and a pleasant weekend,” Rama wrote.

Teacher’s Day remains one of the most meaningful celebrations in Albania’s education calendar. The day recognises the dedication and contribution of teachers to the preservation of knowledge and the Albanian language.
