The challenges of Albanian education in our days, sociologist Zyhdi Dervishi in Radio Tirana “Club 5”

In the studio of “Club 5” of Radio Tirana, the well-known sociologist and professor, Zyhdi Dervishi, among others spoke about the challenges of Albanian education. Zyhdi Dervishi started the conversation with the statement that “Every progress in the field of art or science is related to the classic!”
It is time to remember, added Mr. Dervish, that:
“Our people have shed blood for the letters like no other people. We cannot establish an education system entirely separate from what it has been.”
For more, the sociologist Dervishi referred to the political systems we have gone through.
“Before the 90s, our education suffered from ideology, but there was one of its classic pillars, respect. In the 90s, with the beginning of democracy, education was hit, supposedly to make the system as western as possible, in fact it did not bring anything western, as a result, respect for teachers was hit first.”
As a matter of fact, lecturer Dervishi referred to the criteria of the Ministry of Education for the branch of teaching.
“The average [of high school result] that was decided for [university] admission to the social branches was 7.5 [out of 10], I think this decision is wrong. The average should be above 8 and teaching oriented, not to pass from a social branch to teaching.”
Educate today so we don’t punish tomorrow
“The student is a fragile creature, a beautiful creature that should not be lost,” emphasized the professor Dervishi, while stressing on investing more in education, starting from reducing the number of students in classes and making available the presence of social and psychologist teachers, as an integral part of the school environment. There are costs in the total state budget, but it is better to pay today for education than tomorrow for guards and police.
Society will be calmer, if we invest seriously in the educational aspect. We have a good contingent of teachers. They do this work with little training in the psycho-social field. I am ready to volunteer, we need to arrange communication. We have a good contingent of young people. They can be re-modeled, every young person is a modeling potential, attention and commitment from teachers is required.”
Education is the classic mission of the school
“The school must educate, alongside this mission, educate because the experience of schools after the Second World War, strongly focused on education and the turning of technical sciences to dominance made the education system almost barbaric,” said Mr. Zyhdi Dervish.
“We must adhere to the classic criterion, the school should educate first, so that human society is as social and humane as possible,” concluded the conversation in the studio of the show “Club 5”, the guest of the day, professor Zyhdi Dervishi.
