The exhibition “Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu – the knight of the freedom of the Albanians”

In the context of the 555th anniversary of the death of Skënderbeu, the National Historical Museum opened the exhibition entitled “Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu – the knight of the freedom of the Albanians”, which contains facsimiles, engravings by various authors and portraits, through which visitors are familiar with moments from the life and battles of the National Hero of the Albanians, Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu.

In his speech, the director of the National Historical Museum, dr. Dorian Koçi, said that Skenderbeu’s personality as a statesman, strategist and master of military art differed from the European kings and princes of the time.

“Unlike their military activity, which was based on heavily armed mercenary troops, Skenderbeu relied on a lightly armed army, with great mobility and high striking ability, formed mainly by volunteers who had combat readiness and selfless spirit. The figure of Skënderbeu remained alive in the consciousness of the Albanian people, as a memory of the war with a legendary victory and became a symbol of pride”, said the director of the National Museum.

Andi Seferi, deputy mayor of the Municipality of Tirana, emphasized that the spiritual union of the entire Albanian people and the strengthening of their national consciousness marked the greatest victory of the glorious epic of the 15th century and of the entire work of Skenderbeu.

The description of Arberia before the Ottoman occupation is reflected in this exhibition through the map with the Albanian principalities of the time, together with their emblems, as well as the nobles who participated in the Treaty of Lezha, which constituted the most important political and military union in the history of Albanians.

The attendees visited the exhibition and stopped in particular at the stands that reflected the activity and struggles of Gjergj Kastrioti./ata.al/
