“The External Enemy”, exhibition of caricatures from the communist-era magazine “Hosteni” at COD

The Center for Openness and Dialogue (COD) and the National Library opened the exhibition “The External Enemy” last night. Bashkim Shehu curated the event.

The exhibition presents how the “external enemy” was imagined through political caricatures from the communist-era satirical magazine “Hosteni” during 1945 to 1990.

It serves as a visual and cultural reminder of the propaganda mechanisms used at the time. Officially friendly countries of Albania gradually became hostile, leading to the country’s total self-isolation.

At the opening ceremony at COD, curator Bashkim Shehu shared insights. Additionally, Zhani Ciko and Përparim Kalo reflected on the role of “Hosteni” in public life, offering a vivid view of the historical and cultural context of those years.

The exhibition will remain open to the public until 23 August.
