The ‘Little Archaeologist’ educational workshop is being conducted for students at the Shkodra Fortress

This year, the Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage in Shkodra actively participated in the European Heritage Days celebrations.

Students from the “Ismail Qemali” primary school took part in the workshop “The Little Archaeologist,” held in the historic space of Rozafa Castle. The workshop fostered children’s excitement and creativity through hands-on archaeological discoveries, bringing them closer to history in an engaging and interactive manner.

In the educational lab set up at Shkodra Castle, young participants were introduced to the secrets of the archaeologist’s profession. They learned about essential tools for uncovering artifacts from underground, as well as the steps artifacts undergo during excavation, including cleaning, washing pottery, sieving soil for small finds, and the methods for documenting these discoveries. The practical work offered students direct experience in the stages of archaeological work.

Through a simulated archaeological excavation, the children experienced the thrill of “discovery” while digging, making the process both educational and memorable.
