The Museum of Medieval Art presents painted objects from its collection

The National Museum of Medieval Art in Korça presented today, on social networks, one of the objects it has in its fund. It is about the womb, part of the ceremonial dress of the Eastern Orthodox rite.
Its origin goes far back in history, in the Jewish tradition. In the form it is presented to us today, it was used after the fall of Constantinople and was based on the crown of the eastern emperors.
The womb, exhibited at MKAM, is made of different materials such as silk, metal, stone and colored porcelain. The green piece is surrounded by gold-washed silver decorations with floral motifs, decorated with colorful artificial stones. In the upper part it is closed with a cross. Among the silver decorations, some oval-shaped porcelain pieces depicting the four Evangelists are mounted.
The National Museum of Medieval Art, in Korça, was inaugurated on April 24, 1980. It is one of the most important museum centers in Albania and beyond. Its fund has more than 7 thousand objects of cult and art, mainly icons. There are works by anonymous authors of the century XIII-XIV and other well-known ones such as: Onufri, Onufer the Cypriot, Teacher Kostandin, Jeromonaku, Shpataraku, Selenicasi, the Zografi brothers, etc.
