The photographic technique of the inimitable Pjetër Marubi

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared on social networks moments from the application of this technique in the House of Photography through the assistance of German experts.
One of the German experts is Maximilian Zeitler, photographer and specialist in the realization of historical photography processes. During a visit to the “Marubi” museum, Zeitlet looked closely at some of the glass negatives of the liquid collodion technique made by Pietro Marubi.
Rama said that “Shkodra of Art and Culture offers a journey back in time through photography, with the special experience of the technique used 170 years ago by the inimitable Pjeter Marubi and his genius descendants of the legendary Marubi dynasty.”
“This technique applied again in the House of Photography through the assistance of German experts, who still apply the method of black and white photos made by hand, brought back to Shkodër by the passionate director of the unique museum where the treasure of the Marubi is stored, Luciano Bedeni”, emphasized Rama.
Pjeter Marubi was an Italian from Piacenza, who developed most of his artistic activity in the city of Shkodra.
Upon his arrival in Albania, he opened the first photography studio, which he named “Driteshkronja”, bringing the Albanian word fotografia, meaning to write with light. The studio was founded in 1856 and today bears the name “Marubi” National Photo Gallery.
Besides being a photographer, Pjeter Marubi was also a sculptor, architect and painter.
He left a rich photographic legacy, which, beyond artistic values, has documentary and historical values that testify to the period in which he lived and worked.
