In the village of Vuno, restoration work on the Church of St. Nicholas has commenced.
The National Institute of Cultural Heritage has announced that the restoration project includes the following interventions: structural consolidation, restoration of stone structures, roof construction, land leveling, surrounding drainage, and installation of wooden doors and windows.
According to the Institute, the church, located in the upper part of the village, is currently in a ruined state and has not served the local community for many years.
This church was declared a first-category cultural monument in 2015 and is located in the village of Vuno, approximately 9 kilometers from the city of Himara.
The restoration project is funded by the American Bank of Investments.
The church was built in the 16th century by two indigenous families, from whom two renowned figures of Albanian art, actor Robert Ndrenika and director Dhimitër Anagnosti, are descended.
The church was preserved in its best condition until 1967, when it was demolished by the decision of the communist regime. Today, only the ruins of the walls remain, which provide a clear idea of the church’s former beauty.
