“The Silent Duel” and “Open Horizons”, soon in French cinema

Two Albanian films are presented to the French public at the European film festival L’Europe autour de l’Europe, in a program curated by Roland Sejko.
“The Silent Duel” by director Dhimitër Anagnosti, produced in 1967, and “Open Horizons” by Viktor Gjika, from 1968, will be shown on April 11, at the Studio des Ursulines cinema, as part of the TEMA: Meetings program & Events.
The two Albanian directors Anagnosti and Gjika will be presented alongside 2 other great directors of European cinema, Emir Kusturica and Albert Serra.
The program of 2 Albanian films is focused on the figure of the hero, a topic that will be elaborated by curator Roland Sejko during the presentation of the two films in Paris.
On the Central State Film Archive website it is written that “Albanian cinema produced during the communist regime from 1953 to 1990 is a cinema of heroes. Indeed, the “hero” or, in the sense of socialist realism, the “positive hero” is at the center of almost every film, around which all other characters or events revolve. According to the Soviet definition, this hero is the ideal model, the example that everyone should follow in one of the foundations of Albanian ideology and propaganda, “the struggle for the creation of the New Man”.
The program is shown with the cooperation of the Central State Film Archive and the Embassy of Albania in France.
