“The Sun” highlights Ksamil as rising Ionian destination for European tourists

TIRANA, May 25 – British newspaper “The Sun” described Ksamil as one of the Mediterranean’s emerging beach destinations and referred to the southern Albanian resort as the “Maldives of Europe”. The newspaper highlighted the area’s clear waters, white-sand beaches, and relatively low travel costs. It reported that beer prices start from around 2 euros, while “Ryanair” flights to Tirana begin from about 70 euros.

Ksamil lies along Albania’s Ionian coast near the Greek border. The resort attracts visitors during the summer season, when temperatures in July reach around 28 degrees Celsius. “The Sun” noted that the destination combines beach tourism, nightlife, and access to cultural heritage sites. The main beach offers shallow waters and family-oriented facilities. Meanwhile, nearby beaches such as Pulebardha and Bora Bora provide quieter settings for visitors seeking more privacy.

Boat tours operate daily to the Ksamil Islands, a small group of uninhabited islets located just off the coast. In addition, tourists can visit the nearby Butrint National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site that contains Greek and Roman ruins, including an amphitheater and ancient temples. Saranda, located about 15 minutes away by car, offers restaurants, seaside promenades, and access to archaeological sites. Further north, the Llogara Pass provides panoramic views of the Albanian Riviera and attracts visitors interested in hiking and mountain biking.

“The Sun” also highlighted the resort’s affordability. Restaurants along the coast serve seafood and traditional Albanian dishes at prices ranging from 5 to 10 euros per person. At the same time, bars and beach clubs remain active throughout the summer season, while Ksamil also hosts an annual summer festival focused on local music and gastronomy. Reviews cited by “TripAdvisor” described Ksamil as a “small paradise” with crystal-clear waters and scenic island views.
