The perennial problem of the flooding of the Lead Mosque in Shkodër is finding a solution through a project that is being implemented by the Albanian Ministry of Culture in cooperation with the General Directorate for Foundations at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey.

Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama has published on social networks photos from the construction site at the Lead Mosque, a cultural monument of the first category, built in the years 1773-1774 by Mehmet Bushati (The elder).

Rama says that the work continues for the return of this temple not only to the believers, but also to Shkodër, as another attractive tourist destination.

The problem of flooding will be avoided through a drainage system, well organized around the building and the building of a safe drainage system.

The mosque is undergoing restoration that preserve every element that makes this building unique, by using both authentic techniques and materials.

The protocol for the restoration of the Lead Mosque was signed by the Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy and the Minister of Culture, Elva Margariti, during Prime Minister Edi Rama’s visit to Turkey in January 2021.

As part of the restoration project, the minaret will be built and the covering lead will be renewed, to include also  the new plastering and woodwork that will be carried out.
