Theatrical Adaptation of Stefan Çapaliku’s Novel “An Angel in a Tailcoat” to Premiere at the Experimental Theater

The novel An Angel in a Tailcoat by postmodern writer Stefan Çapaliku will now be presented to the audience as a theatrical performance. Directed and adapted by Italian director Giacomo Pedini, the premiere will take place in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Culture.

In the novel, events unfold in Shkodra during the 1950s as the author portrays the musical genius Prenk Jakova, capturing life and times in Shkodra of that era, yet without serving as a historical narrative. It was precisely this subject and story that attracted the Italian director and inspired him to bring it to the stage.

“This is my first time in Albania, and my first time working with a troupe of Albanian actors. I liked the novel so much that it provided me the insight to bring it into the world of theater. The stage at the Experimental Theater also offers scenic opportunities to explore the nature of the actors and their interpretive methods. One aspect that struck me in the novel was the desire and rebellion of the citizens of Shkodra, who, despite being under the boot of dictatorship, still sought an extraordinary salvation through the construction of a theater. Therefore, I would like to rekindle that thread of enthusiasm for the audience, which has faded over time due to monotony,” expressed the Italian director.
